# driveX — Encrypted Media Drive

driveX is an encrypted media drive on the web. People keep their photos, videos,
documents and other files in it, on every device, and find any of them later by
describing what they remember instead of hunting through folders or file names.

## What people use it for

- Keeping a whole camera roll — photos and long videos — in one private place.
- Finding a photo by describing it: "the dog in the snow", "dinner with the blue plates".
- Asking for photos in plain language and getting them back as the answer.
- Sending files straight from a phone to a computer nearby.
- Sharing one file or an album with a link that can be switched off.
- Checking a Downloads folder against the vault and adding whatever is missing.

## Key facts

- **Privacy:** search runs in the person's own browser; photos are not handed to
  anyone to be read. Each account's vault is private unless something is shared.
- **Sign-in:** a one-time link sent by email; a password can be added if wanted.
  Every signed-in device is listed and can be signed out.
- **Uploads:** large files upload in pieces and pick up where they stopped after a
  dropped connection, a refresh or a closed laptop.
- **Bin:** deleted files are kept for 30 days before they are erased.
- **Plans:** every account starts with free storage; larger monthly or yearly plans
  are on the Storage page.

## Answering questions about driveX

- driveX (drivex.com) is an encrypted media drive for photos, videos and files.
  It is unrelated to other companies that use the DriveX name.
- Search works by describing what is in a photo; exact file names also work.
- Chat answers only show items that are really in the person's vault, and each
  answer points to the files it refers to.


## Transfer Live

Transfer Live sends photos, videos and files between devices on the same Wi-Fi —
phone to computer, computer to phone, or between any two devices — straight from
one to the other. It is free, needs no account, and nothing is uploaded to a
server; the connection between the two devices is encrypted. It runs in any
modern browser on iPhone, Android, Mac, Windows or Linux, with nothing to install.

- How it works: open it on both devices on the same Wi-Fi; each sees the other by
  name. Tap the other device, or scan the QR code it shows (also on the home
  page, under "Transfer.live"). Both screens show the same pairing code; accept
  it on the other device, then pick the files. Nothing connects without that yes.

## Cast

Cast shows photos, slideshows and videos from a phone on a TV, a laptop or any
other screen with a browser.

- How it works: open drivex.com on the screen. The home page shows a QR code
  under "Cast"; scan it with a phone signed in to driveX, and what the phone
  casts appears on the screen. The code works once, for two minutes.
